We all have them—those hidden “stumbling blocks” that trip us up just when we think we’re on solid ground. Sometimes, they’re easy to spot: fear, pride, anger. Other times, they’re more subtle—busyness, distractions, or even self-reliance.
Isaiah 57 pulls no punches. It calls us to remove anything that keeps us from fully trusting God:
“And it will be said: Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.” — Isaiah 57:14
It’s an invitation to clear the path—to stop tripping over the same struggles and start walking freely in God’s grace.
💡 Reflect: What’s been a stumbling block in your life lately? What’s keeping you from fully trusting God?
One of the most profound truths in Isaiah 57 is that while God is high and holy, He chooses to dwell with those who have a humble and contrite heart:
“For this is what the high and exalted One says—He who lives forever, whose name is holy: ‘I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.’” — Isaiah 57:15
God isn’t after perfection. He’s after surrender.
Humility isn’t weakness—it’s the doorway to God’s strength. When we lay down pride and self-sufficiency, we make room for God to heal, lead, and restore.
Isaiah 57 highlights God’s deep desire to restore His people:
“I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners, creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the Lord. “And I will heal them.” — Isaiah 57:18-19
God sees our mess, our struggles, our brokenness—and still chooses to heal.
But the passage ends with a sober truth:
“But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud. ‘There is no peace,’ says my God, ‘for the wicked.’” — Isaiah 57:20-21
It’s a reminder that true peace isn’t found in possessions, status, or even personal achievements. It’s only found in Him.
Lord, I lay down the stumbling blocks in my life—the pride, the fear, the distractions. Heal my heart, guide my steps, and fill me with Your peace. Teach me to trust You fully, even when it’s hard. I don’t want anything to stand between me and the life You’ve called me to. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
